The Coteau-du-Lac blockhouse and earthworks fortifications were built by the
British forces between 1779 and 1820.
Its strategic value was as a transhipment location and in its control of a
small set of locks (the first in Canada) which bypass rapids on the Saint-Laurent
and Delisle Rivers. The site has witnessed the passage of French voyageurs
and Aboriginal peoples over the last 7000 years.
TO ALL FRENCH AND ALLIED TROOPS
The 1er régiment de grenadiers a pied de la garde Impériale and the 3me régiment d’infanterie de ligne are pleased to announce their first annual École du soldat.
The aim of this École du soldat will be to practice French drill, manoeuvres,
and guard duty. To learn French marching songs, as well as general rules of
military conduct and etiquette.
The École du soldat is open to all French and allied troops as well
as their recruits. The cavalry is more than welcome although there are presently
no provisions for the use of horses.
This will be a week-end event (Friday night thru Sunday).
Our long-term intention is to establish two annual events in the Northeast, the école du Soldat as well as an All nations tactical event.
Parks Canada is giving us a good bivouac site, access to their washroom facilities,
and is providing us with plenty of room to drill, march and sing. Skirmishing
and musket firing will only be permitted in designated areas at pre-established
times. Camp fires will be placed in predetermined locations.
Please come out and join us. The success of this event will help us establish
a long-lasting partnership with this location for future events in the years
to come.
All those planning to attend should contact Erik Gram as soon as possible at
erikgram@videotron.ca.
Any coalition troops who wish to attend should get in touch with Erik Gram
to discuss this possibility since the major scheduled activities focus on
French military rules and regulations.
Please give your name, unit, and weapon type i.e. Charlesville 1777 AN IX: (This last info is for Parks Canada)
Hope to see you there!
VIVE L’EMPEREUR!
